Legolas is called Greenleaf twice in Lord of the Rings – once by Gandalf, and once by Galadriel. And, as far as I’m aware, he’s never called Thranduilion in the books at all. Now, I can’t necessarily tell you why, as I’m not Tolkien himself and didn’t make those decisions, but I can sort of… Continue reading Greenleaf vs. Thranduilion

Elves and Dwarves: Alliances
It’s not lore-breaking at all! There have been quite a few elves who developed good relations with dwarves in Middle Earth’s history! Sometimes the relationship was purely business, such as: Thingol hiring the dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost to build Menegroth (though the relationship soured in the end.) Finrod hiring the dwarves of Nogrod and… Continue reading Elves and Dwarves: Alliances
Tolkien’s Most Beautiful Relationships (Third Age Edition)
(Here’s the original First Age edition, for those who haven’t seen it.) The Second Age is difficult for this, since Tolkien didn’t write much about it (which makes me so sad because there are some great stories from that era that I would love to see fleshed out more.) Just assume that my favorite relationships… Continue reading Tolkien’s Most Beautiful Relationships (Third Age Edition)
What do you think about Thranduil mentioning Aragorn in the end of tBotFa? I personally think it wasn’t necessary and I would like to hear your opinion :)
Personally, my opinion is also that it really wasn’t necessary. I’ve read somewhere (can’t remember where, or how legit it was) that Peter Jackson thought he was really throwing die-hard fans a bone with the Aragorn reference, but to me it just felt like he was rubbing our faces in the all the things he’s… Continue reading What do you think about Thranduil mentioning Aragorn in the end of tBotFa? Good evening! I was hoping you might help me with a question: where do I find material on the time in which Aragorn and Legolas returned to Mirkwood with Gollum? Many thanks & a wonderful evening/day!
Well, you actually won’t find that material anywhere – not about all three of them. Despite what Peter Jackson put in the movies, there’s absolutely nothing in the books to suggest that Aragorn and Legolas knew each other before the Council of Elrond. But, as for learning about Aragorn and Legolas (separately) with Gollum, here’s… Continue reading Good evening! In the end, what do you think had the most impact on Legolas and his view on dwarves: the seemingly mutual respect Legolas and Thorin develop in the end or watching Tauriel bond with Kili despite of the cultural and racial differences?
Neeeeiiiiiiiiittttthhheeeerrrrrrrrrrr! Of course we’re only talking about the movies here, since neither Legolas nor Tauriel exist in the Hobbit book. But even if we ignore the books, Legolas at the start of the Fellowship of the Ring movie is still a Legolas with obvious anti-dwarf feelings. So it doesn’t really seem like either of those… Continue reading In the end, what do you think had the most impact on Legolas and his view on dwarves: the seemingly mutual respect Legolas and Thorin develop in the end or watching Tauriel bond with Kili despite of the cultural and racial differences?
Hi there! Quick question about BOTFA, was it possible for Legolas to run out of arrows? Wasn’t his quiver sort of magical, refilling itself thing, since it never happened to him before? Also – great blog, I love it wholeheartedly, been waiting so much for BOTFA answers, since it’s the movie that left me with most doubts :)
Oh my god, that was literally the most satisfying moment of the entire movie – perhaps the whole trilogy, even. After, what, six movies of Legolas, he finally runs out of arrows. I’m grinning right in the middle of the theater, and all I can hear in my head is No, but in all seriousness:… Continue reading Hi there! tBotFA Questions: The Mirkwood Elves
I figured it’d be best to group together a bunch of the movie questions I’ve been getting – at least the ones that don’t require very long answers. This whole batch is about Legolas, Thranduil, and Tauriel: I am so happy that Tauriel survived, mainly for the reasons you just mentioned. Hollywood has far too… Continue reading tBotFA Questions: The Mirkwood Elves
Aragorn and Legolas After tBotFA
Oh man, that conversation. I don’t even- okay, here’s the thing. Aragorn, at the time of the Battle of Five Armies, is ten years old. Ten. 10. Which leaves us with three options: Aragorn, at 10 years old, is already wandering the wilds in a tiny little hooded cloak, making such a nuisance of himself… Continue reading Aragorn and Legolas After tBotFA
Hello! I am writing a LOTR/The Hobbit Legolas/OC fanfiction and I am wondering if you could help me out with a few things: 1. I wish my protagonist to be from a “fallen”/”forgotten” elvish royal family but I don’t have enough knowledge of the elvish family tree to figure one out myself, so it’d be great if you could recommend me one (see the next question)
Hmmmm….. there are a few possibilities for “forgotten” royal families. The most relevant/convenient for Legolas would probably be Lorien, actually. Before Galadriel and Celeborn came to rule there Lorien actually had a king, but he died childless. You could easily give him some sort of relative who stayed behind but didn’t succeed Amroth (the last… Continue reading Hello!
