[Here’s the original post, for context] Okay, so my basic argument is that I believe the relationship between the elves of Lorien/Mirkwood and the dwarves of Moria was reasonably violent during the early/middle part of the Second Age (approximately between 750 and 1700, I’d think.) The reasons I think this (aka the minuscule details I’m… Continue reading Heyy I saw your post on elves and dwarves having wars during the “dark years” and I was wondering if you could expand on that a little? There might be a ficcy plot=bunny in there for me! 8)

Why is it that out of all the Elven realms, only Mirkwood has a king? Why is there not a king of Lothlorien or Rivendell? Sorry if this is a stupid question
It’s basically because Mirkwood is the only elven realm that still has a royal family. Lorien originally had a king, but he left after the balrog awoke in Moria. Since the elves there were left without a ruler, Galadriel and Celeborn stepped in, but remained the Lady and Lord of Galadriel, rather than naming themselves… Continue reading Why is it that out of all the Elven realms, only Mirkwood has a king? Were any stranges that were brought to Caras Galadhon blindfolded?
When Haldir and the elves find the fellowship, they originally want to turn Gimli away entirely, since dwarves were not allowed in Lorien. However, when Frodo insisted that Gimli was trustworthy, Haldir agreed that Gimli would be allowed if he were blindfolded during the journey. Gimli’s reaction to this news, though, wasn’t great: `As was… Continue reading Were any stranges that were brought to Caras Galadhon blindfolded?
Howard Shore’s Lothlorien Theme
As the title suggests, the most “Middle Earth-ish” song I can think of is the Lothlorien theme from Howard Shore’s soundtracks – this video pieces together all the parts/renditions of this theme in the movies, which is really cool. Considering I absolutely love Shore’s soundtrack, the Lothlorien theme still stands out to me because I… Continue reading Howard Shore’s Lothlorien Theme
Elves and Dwarves: The Dark Days
Disclaimer: This post starts off informative and research-based, but then suddenly veers into Headcanon Land, so the second half is more based on my own opinion than anything. First of all, the only recorded battle between elves and dwarves was, as you said, the fighting that broke out after the Nauglamir was taken and Thingol… Continue reading Elves and Dwarves: The Dark Days
“Pre-Contact” Silvan Elves
There isn’t too much information about the Silvan/Nandorin elves of the early Second Age (that is, before Galadriel and various Sindarin elves arrived and a few of them apparently volunteered themselves to become their kings and Sindarize their culture.) Probably the best description we have comes from “The History of Galadriel and Celeborn”, which says:… Continue reading “Pre-Contact” Silvan Elves
Galadriel’s Departure from Eregion
So, this is the official account of Galadriel’s departure from Eregion: So great became his hold on the Mírdain that at length he persuaded them to revolt against Galadriel and Celeborn and to seize power in Eregion; and that was at some time between 1350 and 1400 of the Second Age. Galadriel thereupon left Eregion… Continue reading Galadriel’s Departure from Eregion
The Galadhrim
The elves of Lorien, if they aren’t just called “the elves of Lorien” are called the Galadhrim. And the only reason I’m making this a full post, is that “Galadhrim” doesn’t actually have anything to do with Galadriel, and that’s so confusing for many readers that I figured I should explain it fully. Galadhrim is… Continue reading The Galadhrim
Oropher in Lorien?
Hmmm…. well, I can tell you that Tolkien never clearly/specifically says one way or the other. This whole historical period is treated pretty vaguely by Tolkien, so we don’t get a whole lot of specifics with the topic at all. The closest I could find were these comments, which don’t really answer your question, but… Continue reading Oropher in Lorien?
