My Christmas present to you: opening credits for the Silmarillion tv show I’d love to see someday (no matter how unlikely that may be.)
The song is the opening credits song for The 100 (composed by Evan Frankfort.) The maps are from Karen Wynn Fonstad’s Atlas of Middle Earth, and the video clips are from Peter Jackson’s movies.

Oh, will you look at that, I spent my weekend stress!editing instead of writing real posts like I should have…. sorry about that. Well, enjoy the fruits of my labor anyway! This time it’s a LotR/Hobbit – Godzilla trailer mashup (a hint of something for all you who’ve wondered whether balrogs beat dragons or vice-versa.)

Coming April 4, 2015: THE HOBBIT READ-ALONG
Some of you were involved with previous read-alongs, so you know what’s coming, but for the newbies, here’s the deal: For seven weeks, we’re going to read through Tolkien’s The Hobbit together chapter by chapter. It’s a great opportunity for first-timers and old fans alike to enjoy Tolkien’s works with other Tumblr fans like you while also sharing our own fanworks.
And in case that description wasn’t enough to get you excited, here’s a promo trailer I made for the event. If you have any questions, you can find me at tolkienreadalong.tumblr.com – I hope to see you all there!
(Oh, and please reblog this, or make a promo post of your own – the more people find out about the read-along, the more fun it is for everyone, believe me!)
Here it is, the next read-along! Hop on over to tolkienreadalong to learn more, and prepare for the fun!
Aaaaaand, look what came out today – another CGP Grey video about Middle Earth! This one’s all about the rings of power, and I once again got a chance to read the script ahead of time, so I can personally attest to its awesomeness.
Okay guys, serious talk for a minute. I’ve decided to give crowd-funding a try, because I’ve got some cool ideas for the blog’s future (which I mention in the video, but would be more than happy to talk about in more detail if asked), and absolutely no money to make that happen. I shopped around the various options, and settled on Patreon, for the following reasons:
- It’s set up to make small, monthly contributions to the creator of your choice (that’s me!) If you only want to make a one-time payment, you can always just cancel your pledge next month, but since the blog is ongoing, I liked having a crowd-funding tool that was ongoing.
- It accepts payments from credit cards or Paypal (which is great for all of you who, like me, don’t want to set up a Paypal account.)
- Like Kickstarter, it’s set up so that I can reward patrons (there’s more information about rewards on the Patron page.)
Now, let me make this clear: the blog will remain as it’s always been: free for everyone, forever. I am not asking you to pay for the blog. I’m just asking that those of you with cash to spare consider contributing to make the blog better. If anyone has any concerns about any of this, please please send me a message (or an email at askmiddlearth@gmail.com), I would love to talk to you!

CGP Grey just made this great video summarizing Middle Earth’s mythology (I got a sneak peak at the script checking for errors, of which there were none, which is super impressive for a four-minute video that covers so much information.) I’d especially recommend this video for anyone trying to explain the basic who’s-who of Middle Earth to any less-read friends and family (which should come in handy what with the last Hobbit movie being out and all.)
Thanksgiving Gift #3: Dark Knight Rises
All footage is from An Unexpected Journey, and all sound is from the Dark Knight Rises trailer. Enjoy!
